What I’m Reading
Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, here are some of my favourite quotes so far:
“I want to learn from myself, want to be my student, want to get to know myself, the secret of Siddhartha.” – on learning from experience and self-exploration.
“A goal stood before Siddhartha, a single goal: to become empty, empty of thirst, empty of wishing, empty of dreams, empty of joy and sorrow. Dead to himself, not to be a self any more, to find tranquility with an emptied heard, to be open to miracles in unselfish thoughts, that was his goal. Once all of my self was overcome and had died, once every desire and every urge was silent in the heart, then the ultimate part of me had to awake, the innermost of my being, which is no longer my self, the great secret “ – on dissolving the ego ( the mind-made self) we are much more than merely our minds.
What I’ve Been Watching
Titan: The Oceongate Disaster on Netflix.
The late Oceangate ceo, Stockton Rush, must have been the most narcissistic, psychopathic CEO of all time.
Like Icarus, who died by flying too close to the sun, Stockton Rush died alongside several patrons while taking them to see the Titanic wreckage in a bodge-job submersible called Titan, which was certain to eventually implode at those depths.
In this case, Stockton played Russian roulette with his and his passengers’ lives.
Everyone told him not to take the submersible to such depths, as it was certain it would eventually implode.
And it did.
Just like the captain of the Titanic didn’t listen to advice, neither did Stockton, and ironically, he played one too many games with fate and lost his life in the same spot where the Titanic sank.
A Quote I’m Pondering
“Emotion which is suffering, ceases to be suffering as soon as we form a clear and precise picture of it”- Spinoza
Some Tunes I Can’t Stop Listening To
Robbie Doherty – Back At Ya
Chloe Caillet, Luke Alessi – The One ( ft Jocelyn Brown)
Orion Sun—Intro ( Bryson Tiller uses the same backing track in the song, whatever she wants, which was originally composed by Yuji Ohno for his song Prologue)
My Workout Tip Of The Week
Learn proper form for compound exercises. These are the exercises that give you the biggest bang for your buck, and learning how to do them properly will pay dividends for years to come ( by increasing muscle, strength, and vitality).
The exercises I’m referring to are the squat, bench press, military press and deadlift.
Read Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe to learn how to perform these exercises with perfect form.
Lesson of the week
Check where you’re going on Google Maps before mindlessly following that route.
Yesterday, I was meant to go somewhere called Sunniside, which was the wrong Sunniside. I ended up being 20 minutes further away from where I needed to be than when I started.
This was annoying, but I later laughed at myself.
That’s another piece of advice I’ve learned: learn to laugh at yourself, life is much easier that way.
