Extreme Ownership

In life we can conduct ourselves in 2 ways:

  1. Take ownership and responsibility for our lives. Even for things that aren’t our fault.
  2. Blame others and our circumstances.

I believe we’ll be incredibly more successful and effective if we approach life in a way where we take responsibility and ownership for our lives.

And this is for a simple reason:

Blaming others and our circumstances is useless. It doesn’t help us one iota.

In fact, it makes us stagnant and makes us feel as if we can’t do anything about our circumstances.

But instead, if we take full ownership for our actions and choices we can analyse our decisions and focus on what we can do to change our circumstances for the better.

For example, if you hire someone to do some work for you and they do a bad job, then even though its kind of their fault for doing a bad job, if we take full responsibility for hiring them and take ownership of the situation, we can ask ourselves questions like this:

Maybe I should have spent more time finding the right person for the job.

I won’t be using this person again.

If I was willing to pay a bit more I probably could have got this done at a much better standard.

Remember we can’t control what other people do but we always have full control over our actions and choices.

I know it’s hard, but if we can take full responsibility and ownership for our lives, instead of being a victim and blaming others. Our lives will instantly be more effective and our future will be in our hands.
